It was a slow week for new DVD Afternoon-style DVD releases, and so Heather Noel and I wound up reviewing a couple of especially low-profile films in the main body of the show: the Matt Singer-endorsed Spanish-language father-son docudrama Alamar, and the ultra-stylish Belgian giallo pastiche Amer. Did our adventurousness pay off? You'll have to listen to find out! And you can immediately jump to the point in the show that interests you most with the aid of this handy segment breakdown:
0:00-14:06: Intro/Oscar ceremony hopes and dreams
14:06-15:10: New Order, "Ceremony"
15:10-26:04: Alamar
26:04-27:06: Chrissy Zeppy Tembo, "Fisherman"
27:06-39:00: Amer
39:00-40:09: Stelvio Cipriani, "La polizia sta a guardare"
40:09-54:33: Other noteworthy new DVD releases/Outro
Here is the trailer for Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde, which Heather mentioned in her DVD roundup:
And also, I apologize for misstating the name of the writer/director of Four Lions. He is Chris Morris, of course, not Chris Hedges. Dagnabbit... a flub-free podcast right up until the final minutes!
