Yesterday saw the first BIG 28mm game of the year, 8 players, at our usual big game haunt if Fife.
This was a first in many ways, first one day big game, my first AWI game using Black Powder, first time all my AWI collection has been on the table and the first time at one of our games for Michael Schneider, mylittlemenekin.blogspot.uk. Organised by Bill, Blenheim to Berlin.blogspot.uk. and David, Saxondog.blogspot.uk, figures supplied by Bill, Angus, edinburgh wargames.com, Michael and myself with 1 battalion from David. Over 80 battalions approx 1800 miniatures. Terrain from TM and Last Valley.
We used the revised sequence 66% move and ranges and a new Break Test chart amended from Hail Casear.
Table layout with Patriot forces deployed.
British and their allies advance on in force.
Washington pushes up a Militia Bridage to halt the Hessians.
The British center advances over the river supported by the Loyalists on the other flank.Brave Patriot units try to stem the tide.
The British highwater mark. Having pushed back 2 Militia units holding the fence line Angus and his 2 Brigades wait the onslaught of the Patriot reserves and cavalry. On the other flank the Tory units were collapsing as the Hessians were bogged down by the river and some dogged defending.
A great game with the Brits moaning about the missing Elite Brigade of Grenadies and Lights that had got lost on their flank March and the pathetic performance of Banastre Tarleton and his cavalry Brigade, who came on the table twice and were forced off it twice by a couple of Militia units.
All figures by Front Rank and Perry mostly metal apart from my 8 battalion of plastic.
Ian liked the period so much he bought an unfinished Brit unit from David and plans to get more.
The lighting in the room was pretty poor so sorry for the quality of pics.
